Mrs. Metler's eighth-grade students have been developing the skill of identifying the author's purpose for a paragraph or passage. They put their skills to the test today by playing a board game against their classmates where they had to read and decide the purpose of the paragraph. #ExperienceWCS #xperienceLakeview #MrsMetler #LakeviewELA

Mrs. Metler's 8th-grade writing class has been exploring the meaning and origins behind their names, as a way to introduce themselves to their classmates. They read the picture book Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal and were challenged to talk to a grownup in their life about their name story. They researched the meanings of names and even how popular their names are. Then they wrote a paragraph and shared their name stories with their classmates. #ExperienceWCS #lakeviewReads #LakeviewResearch LakeviewWrites #mrsmetler

Metler Name Project
Today in Mrs Boggs’s Honors ELA 8 class students went through a dice game simulation of the yellow fever to introduce the novel Fever 1793. They collected beads to represent the symptoms associated with the epidemic that ran through Philadelphia in the fall of 1793. They started reading right away with the purpose of finding evidence to determine what kind of person the author is developing in the main character, Matilda. #ExperienceWCS #LakeviewReads #mrsboggs
